POWER ACOUSTIK BAMF4000/1D BAMF SERIES CLASS D MONO AMPLIFIER (4000W) (BAMF4000/1D) -
Good Power; several down-falls
Purchased this amp brand new. I had two Alpine Type-S 12" Subs wired into a 2-Ohm load. The gain was set low to avoid overpowering the subwoofers (Alpine typically handles more power than their highest rated RMS) The subs are still working fine, however, during my setup the amp would constantly cut-out if I ran my system for even ten minutes with heavy bass. The amp was in a well ventilated area and had spacers between it and the mounting board. The output in the configuration for the amp was 900x1 watts rms. Each sub was rated at 300-350 watts rms, far below what the amp was supplying. This should mean the amp wasn't working strenously. I purchased an Alpine M50 which puts out 250 watts RMS to each subwoofer and it runs very cool and seems to push the subs harder than this amp ever did. This amp would get very hot. In the end it fried and after opening the case the area around the copper coils was black. Not sure what caused the amp to overheat.... I still love powera acoustik's...
